OBITUARY OF PETER REICH
Peter Reich, whose serious illness has been reported in this column, died yesterday morning at one o’clock, at the home of his son George, where he had lived more than
42 years. Peter Reich was born in Germany Nov. 1, 1818, died at Hope, Ks. Oct. 9,
1912 aged 95 years, 11 months and 8 days. He came to this country in 1852 and settled in Illinois. He came to Kansas and settled on the farm (where he died) in
1870, taking the farm as a homestead and living there since that time. He was the father of seven children, three of which still survive him, viz: Mrs. Wm. (Maria Reich) Buttel, and Fred and George all of Hope. He leaves a number of grand children and great grand children. The body will be buried today in the Pilgrim’s Home Cemetery by the side of his wife who died about nine (years) ago.
"Uncle Peter" as he was generally called, was a very fine old man and greatly loved by all who knew him. He always had a kind word and a joke ready when he met an acquaintance, and the whole community mourn his death. When he was taken with his last sickness a few weeks ago, he knew he would not recover. When his old family doctor Ketchersid was called to see him he told the doctor good bye and sent good bye to all his old friends in Hope, particularly naming Martin Pease, Wesley Swayze and the writer, adding "and all my old friends." The relatives have the sympathy of all the old settlers in the community, and many others who became acquainted in recent years. Uncle Peter will long be remembered.
